On Thursday, February 18, at 7pm, the “Joves i precaris!” (Young and Insecure!) debate was broadcast live on PEN Català’s YouTube channel.
Juma B. Barratxina, Joan Deusa, Carla Fajardo, Raquel Santanera and Maria Sevilla raised issues such as economic instability, the proliferation of literary awards, management of poetic projects, the lack of freedom of expression and self-censorship, Universal Basic Income as a means for more people of every social class to be able to write, and the concept of “insecurity of the privileged,” among others.
The five young people addressed all of these issues from various points of view and also responded to questions and comments from the audience, which ranged from publication criteria and capitalist logistics of profitability, to various occupations in the literary world and their respective levels of instability, also touching on whether to adapt school readings, and academics today.
