On the 7th and 8th of May, librarians will have the opportunity to find out the details of the programme for adolescents promoted by the cultural centre Det fria ordets hus and they will be sharing their experiences with other European librarians in Växjö and Stockholm. We have asked them what they expect from this exchange.
Dani García is the director of the Biblioteca Central of Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelona) and, as such, he works as the head of the Xarxa de Biblioteques of the city. He is also a teaching consultant for Audiovisual Documentation on the Degree in Multimedia at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
“As a participant in the Engage! project I hope to share experiences with other professionals and visualise methodologies to implement library projects destined to young audiences.
Mònica Medina has a degree in Documentation from the Universitat de Barcelona and a certification in Library Science and Documentation from the Escola Universitària Jordi Rubió i Balaguer in Barcelona. She worked as a librarian at the Universidat Politècnica de Catalunya between 1996 and 2002, and since 2002 she has worked for the Consorci de Biblioteques de Barcelona. Between 2004 and 2007 she was the director of the Biblioteca Bon Pastor. At present she is the director of the Biblioteca Sagrada Família -JMAL. She was an elected member of the Secció de Biblioteques Públiques de la IFLA (Public Libraries Standing Committee) between 2003-2007 and 2007-2011.
“Nordic libraries have always been a model for our public library service. The exchange in Växjö will surely be a source of inspiration for the projects we are developing at the Biblioteques de Barcelona for the young and adolescent population. Finding out about other realities and experiences always makes you grow, both personally and professionally”.
Espe Piñero has gone from being employed as an unskilled worker to working in the local radio station as a story teller to the children of Olesa (Barcelona). For 25-years she has been working in the public library. She was responsible for the children's room and is now at the lending and information service of the Biblioteca Santa Oliva in Olesa de Montserrat (Barcelona), from where she welcomes the boys and girls who go into the library.
“I would like to convey my passion for our work and the passion placed in every project. I hope to convey our absolute confidence in the young people of the village and I hope to enjoy other related experiences, learn from other realities, fill my suitcase with new ideas and enjoy this great opportunity”.
